Anna Andrea Joins the Tloma Team of Super Heroes!

Teaching a classroom of fourth and fifth graders is always a challenge, but teaching classrooms of 90 fourth graders and 111 fifth graders takes someone special, like Anna. Fortunately, Tloma has nothing but special teachers. But we need more!

Tloma has 817 students and its classes of 80-128 students greatly exceeds Tanzania's average class size of 56. Despite their best efforts, it is impossible for Tloma teachers to give each student the attention and education they need with that many students. And, when so few students get the opportunity to advance beyond 7th grade, they need a good primary-school education.

Headmaster Beatus Martin is one of only three university-educated Tloma teachers. He asked if we could help him hire ten new degreed teachers to reduce class sizes and to improve the quality of education for our students.

Thanks to a donor's four-year commitment to sponsor a new teacher, Anna Andrea has now joined the Tloma Team.

Anna is a university graduate with a degree in elementary education. She is married to Zacharia who is currently seeking employment. They have two children, Debora, age 5, and Denis, age 3. Anna has taught for three years previous to coming to Tloma, where she is now teaching our fourth and fifth graders.

Lack of national funding for teachers has not only left schools short of teachers, it has created a surplus of university graduates with very few employment opportunities. Many seek 'volunteer' positions with public schools to get valuable experience toward qualifying for one of the few government openings. Beatus has been interviewing volunteer applicants and has several he would like to hire.

But he needs funding, and we are asking for your help.

It takes just $100 a month for 12 months to hire a university educated teacher. We are seeking full-year commitments, but we will combine smaller contributions to reach the $1200 amount to hire a teacher for a year. Our Tloma students need our help. Will you join us by making a contribution now?
